Protected mother YouTube vlogger Ruby Frank asked if we were “in the news” a day after she was arrested for brutally abusing her two young children, newly released audio of her jailhouse conversations revealed.

Franke, 42, also appeared to blame her children for their own torture, claiming that “adults have a really hard time understanding that children can be full of evil and what it takes to fight it,” according to recently released phone records. obtained from ABC 4.

Franke, who ran the popular YouTube channel ‘8 Passengers’, which focuses on her strict approach to parenting, detailed her sadistic abuse of her two youngest children – which included shaving their heads, starving them, dousing them with dirty water, driving them to stand outside barefoot in the brutal desert heat for hours and force them to wear adult diapers – in newly released diary entries.

The mother of six, who once beat her children with a belt, was sentenced to up to 60 years in prison last month after admitting to abusing the same children who helped her become famous online.

During the jailhouse call, an unidentified man told Franke that new stories about her abuse were making headlines.

“Are we on the news,” Franke asked.

“Looks like you’re at least in the news,” he replied, adding that it was “getting dark.”

“It’s a witch hunt,” Franke added. “The devil has been after me for years.”

In other phone calls between August 2023 and December 2023, Franke defended her abuse as well as the choices made by her former business partner Jody Hildebrand, comparing them to Joseph Smith, the founder of the Mormon church.

“The most upsetting thing is that I am completely misunderstood,” Franke told her husband, from whom she separated in 2022, during a conversation on September 1, 2023.

“It’s the most horrible feeling. It’s like my own family is misunderstanding me, misinterpreting me,” she added.

After separating from her husband, Franke began spending much of her time in Ivins, Utah with Hildebrandt, who is a controversial mental health coach. There they launched a video channel with the participation of Ruby’s two youngest children – a 12-year-old boy and a 9-year-old girl.

Franke and Hildebrand were arrested on Aug. 30 when her son managed to escape their haunted house and rang a neighbor’s doorbell for help. He was covered in wounds, with tape around his wrists and ankles.

During the conversation, Franke said Hildebrand was also misunderstood and misrepresented.

“Joseph Smith – every wonderful man of God had to be misunderstood,” she said, her voice cracking with emotion.

“God told me I was ready,” Franke said. “Satan has taken everything I love from me. I’m a good woman too. I don’t do naughty things.”

By December, however, Franke’s views on Hildebrand had changed dramatically, according to a recording of a Dec. 2, 2023, phone call.

“I couldn’t have gotten out of it without … without His grace, without His mercy, without His help,” Franke said. “It was the strangest and most miraculous intervention. It put everyone where they needed to be.”

Franke said the breakup with Hildebrand “clarified a lot of things” for her.

During a nearly 20-minute phone call on Dec. 28, 2023, an unidentified woman asked Franke if she had seen Hildebrand plead guilty, to which Franke replied, “Yes, it’s a big relief.”

Franke then admitted that if Hildebrand had not pleaded guilty, she could have been convicted and sentenced to life in prison.

The woman then asked Franke if she and Hildebrand would face equal prison time, to which Franke appeared to indicate she thought her ex-partner should get a longer sentence because she was “mentally ill.”

“I’m also hiring a professional to do a mental health evaluation just to say, ‘She’s fine, like she doesn’t have any mental health issues,'” Franke said, noting that he thought Hildebrandt would lie about her mental state.

“I don’t think she’s going to give them her story,” Franke added. “I think it will become apparent in the interview that she is mentally ill.”

Franke also said she believes Hildebrand only pleaded guilty “because she didn’t want to live to life.”

During the conversation, Franke also revealed that the last time she spoke to Hildebrand was the morning of their arrest.

Franke, who was getting a medical at the time cops were called, said her home “looked like a movie theater” when she returned.

“I pulled over and found a spot to park … I went and the driveway was full of cops,” she recalled.

She and Hildebrand didn’t say much to each other when they were “in the back” when her children were taken away in ambulances, but they hummed some hymns, Franke said.

“I’m glad I didn’t say anything,” Franke told the woman on the other end of the call. “If you ever get arrested, don’t say anything.”

Franke said her attorney told her Hildebrandt denies everything, which is why she knew he was lying from the beginning.

Although Franke admitted to child abuse in a plea agreement, she also claimed she was influenced by Hildebrand.

“You get a six-year-old who knows they have to pee in the toilet and they pee through the heater vent, they’re going to try to hide it,” Franke said.

“And then I knew she knew. She knew all along. And she hides it.”
