AAfter weeks of speculation and concern about Kate Middleton’s health and whereabouts, the Princess of Wales released a video message to the public on March 22 revealing the reason for her hiatus from public life. Kate, 42, revealed that she is currently undergoing “preventive chemotherapy” for an undisclosed type of cancer, which was discovered after scheduled abdominal surgery in January.

“It’s been an incredibly difficult few months for all of our family, but I’ve had a fantastic medical team who have taken amazing care of me, which I’m so grateful for,” the princess shared. Of her diagnosis, she said: “It came as a huge shock, of course, and [Prince] William and I are doing our best to process and manage this personally, for the sake of our young family… It took me time to recover from major surgery to start my treatment, but most importantly, it took us time to explain everything [our children] George, Charlotte and Louis, in a way that is right for them and to reassure them that I will be fine.’

Kate, whose father-in-law King Charles III is also undergoing treatment for an undisclosed form of cancer, sent her best wishes to others “whose lives have been affected” by the disease. In an emotional signing, she said: “To anyone facing this disease, whatever form it takes, please don’t lose faith or hope. You are not alone.”

There has been an outpouring of supportive messages since the Princess of Wales’ announcement. From UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak to US President Joe Bidenpeople send their good wishes from all over the world.

One such public figure who has commented is actor Olivia Munn, who recently opened up about her own diagnosis and the surgeries she underwent after learning she had breast cancer. Commenting on Kate’s video, posted on the Prince and Princess of Wales’ Instagram account, Munn wrote: “Thank you for showing what it’s like to fight with grace and determination for yourself and your family. Best wishes,” followed by three white hearts.

Under Meng’s comment, one social media user wrote: “I’m glad women like you and Kate shared their experiences. Sending only love and prayers. Another commented: “I wish you a speedy recovery too. It is so incredibly sad to go through this. You and Princess Kate are both showing so much grace during this difficult time. God bless.”

Mun, 43, who welcomed son Malcolm in November 2021, opened up about her own experience with the disease in a touching Instagram post shared on March 13. Alongside a series of pictures of herself in hospital, she wrote the caption: ‘I was diagnosed with breast cancer. I hope that sharing this will help others find comfort, inspiration and support on their own journey.”

The newsroom the actor went on to explain that she was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2023 when her doctor sent her for an MRI after calculating her “Breast Cancer Risk Score.” After a biopsy revealed she had cancer in both breasts, Meng went on to have a double mastectomy.

“In the past 10 months, I’ve had four surgeries, so many days in bed I can’t even count, and I’ve learned more about cancer, cancer treatment, and hormones than I could have ever imagined,” she wrote. In addition to thanking her medical team and her partner, SNL alum John Mulaney, Munn thanked “friends who have had breast cancer and friends who have connected me with friends who have had breast cancer for getting me through some of my most uncertain and overwhelming moments .”
