The royal biographer says the news of Kate’s cancer should end speculation about her

Royal commentators said the announcement by Kate, Britain’s Princess of Wales, confirming she is being treated for cancer should finally put to bed speculation about her health.

“I hope this puts an end to the speculation,” royal biographer Claudia Joseph said in an interview.

“Obviously they would hope the speculation would end but the reality is this is social media and people are often incredibly viral and trolling people left right and centre… They are speculating and talking absolute rubbish.”

Rumors and gossip have been rife on social media, in newspapers and even on some US talk shows since Kate underwent abdominal surgery in January, which meant she had to take time off from royal engagements while she recovered.

Although her office at Kensington Palace said she is not expected to return to her public role until after Easter, which falls on March 31, Kate’s absence has not stopped speculation spreading and making headlines around the world.

It came after her husband, Crown Prince William, pulled out of attending a memorial service at Windsor Castle for his godfather, the late King Constantine of Greece, due to an unspecified “personal matter”.

French President Emmanuel Macron also wished the princess a full recovery. “Your Highness, in this difficult time you are going through, Brigitte and I wish you a full recovery. Your strength and endurance inspire us,” he said.
